Yani Tseng fails to impress fans at Vancouver, but confident to remain number one in coming months
Current world number one Yani Tseng registered an overall 289 at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, finishing tied for the 35th position along with five other contenders.
Tseng, who got off to a solid start as she grabbed an early lead by scoring a 66 in the first round, faltered in the next three rounds, which took a serious toll on her overall position on the leaderboard.
After the top-ranked prodigy seized the lead in the first round, her fans and spectators thought she is now on the move and will get back on track once again. However, Tseng could not live up to the expectations of her fans and recorded a poor finish yet again.
Tseng hails from Taiwan and has seized the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings for more than a year now. Despite her stunning accomplishments and a solid start in the current Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) season, the golfing sensation is struggling to prove her mettle as her performance has been worse than average in the recent tournaments.
The final round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 held at the Vancouver Golf Club saw Tseng falter on most of the holes. She carded a 74 on Sunday, putting a damper on her plans to end her brief victory drought.
Analysts said that witnessing a string of dismal finishes in the recent past has put Tseng under intense scrutiny and her admirers are now becoming increasingly concerned about her once-flawless performance.
Although rattled due to defeats that also saw her miss the cut in some of the events she has played recently, Tseng still looks as confident as she was when she was winning titles after titles.
The LPGA giant shared her thoughts during the tournament, saying she is also concerned about her slumping performance, but she has not lost hope at all and will hopefully bounce back in the coming tournaments.
She said that she is still number one in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and she knows what it means to be at the top.
“Number 1 has always been my dream.  I want to stay in this place as well as possible.  I feel there is a long way to go, and so many things I can learn and I can play,” Tseng said in her interview.
