Yani Tseng fails to make the cut at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012
The current world number one Yani Tseng, who sought to defend her title at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, failed to maintain her upper hand over rivals after she missed the cut.
Tseng was regarded as the strongest contender in the field of Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, but lost her charisma when she set foot on the course of Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.
Missing the cut in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament came as a serious blow to the top-ranked prodigy, and now other players will pose a threat to her number one position in the Women’s
World Golf Rankings.
Although the roster featured players like the current world number two Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Ai Miyazato, Mika Miyazato, Lexi Thompson and others, Tseng was not expected to display such
a grim performance.
Now with Lewis having surged to the second spot and other players ramping up pressure in terms of ranking points, it has become increasingly important for the feared LPGA star to toughen up in order to maintain
her ascendency in women’s golf.
Tseng, who belongs to Taiwan, kicked off the tournament in a shaky style, as she recorded two bogeys on the par-5 2nd and the difficult par-3 3rd hole. She posted a 73 in the opening round.
The second round was also mired in nervousness, as the number one star was seen faltering on most of the holes. She started the round by shooting a bogey, messing up her position on the leaderboard.
On the back nine of the second round, the Taiwanese golfer looked even more devastated, as she made a double bogey on the par-4 13th hole.
On the other hand, Tseng’s biggest foe Stacy Lewis displayed a far better performance as she finished tied for the 19th position on the leaderboard.
Lewis, who is chasing Tseng in world rankings, has emerged as the biggest threat in recent weeks, and she appears to be marching toward the top spot thanks to good finishes.
With the US Women’s Open set to start from July 5-8, at Kohler, Lewis appears to have set her sights on her second major title this year.
