Yani Tseng firm to defend title at LPGA Championship 2012
The current world number Yani Tseng is seeking to defend her title at the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, with a strong roster featuring big LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
The major tournament is scheduled to be played from June 7-10, at Locust Hill Country Club, Pittsford, New York.
Tseng is the hot favourite for the coveted title, despite several battle-hardened contenders in the field. Analysts said that the top-ranked star can repeat her stunning performance in this edition as well, if she sticks to her work ethic.
Tseng has won one edition of the tournament, which according to golf commentators, can help her record another win.
However, the experienced star may find it a little hard to beat strong contenders, as the field is featuring players like Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Karrie Webb, Katherine Hull and others.
Tseng may not have proved her worth in the last event, ShopRite LPGA Classic, but she now looks set to atone for her lapses.
According to her current year’s statistics, Tseng has been going well, as she has recorded three LPGA victories.
The Taiwanese star kicked off the current season in an impressive style and won the Honda LPGA Thailand in February. She beat Japanese Ai Miyazato by one stroke.
Tseng has been phenomenal when it comes to major events. Having racked five titles, the golfing sensation is set to add another major honour to her profile.
Speaking to the media about how she has been performing in the current season, Tseng said that she has been able to further improve her putting and now she is more confident than ever before.
"At the beginning of this year, I was putting so much pressure (on myself), the most pressure I've ever had in my whole life,'' said the pro golfer.
She dispelled her fans’ concerns about her being under pressure, saying she plays tournament with full confidence. She said that fans’ pressure is immense, as they expect players to do best all the time, but she has learned to overcome nervousness.
"I don't feel as much pressure (now), but the people around me, they say ... I'm getting picky, I want to try to be perfect all the time,'' Tseng said.
