Yani Tseng gets off to an unimpressive start at HSBC Women's Champions
The current world number one Yani Tseng, who was expected to steal the show in the HSBC Women’s Champions, finished the 1st round tied for the 20th
spot.
The event being played at Tanah Merah Country Club is featuring a strong field, comprising defending champion Karrie Webb and titans like Paula Creamer.
Tseng kicked off her first round with confidence but she lost her momentum on the some of the holes. She carded an unimpressive 71 to settle at the 20th position.
However, she appeared unfazed by what she did on the first of the $1.4 million event. Sharing her thoughts about her worse-than-expected performance, Thai Tseng said that she is confident that she will atone for the lapses she made on Thursday.
The world number one showed her usual form and made amazing moves on some of the holes.
She shot 3 birdies in an effort to strengthen her position on the leaderboard. She erroneously misjudged her putts on two holes and ended up scoring bogeys.
Tough contenders were not the only ones the Thai star faced, a hurting elbow also took a toll on her game. Tseng told that the injury had been troubling her for weeks, but now she is receiving treatment.
She said that due to the efforts of her physio, she has been able to overcome the pain, but the injury still needs to be healed.
Tseng was confident to do her best at Tanah Merah Country Club due largely to her stellar performance at Honda LPGA Thailand, where she successfully defended her title.
Tseng’s career has been stunning, as she has racked up a number of victories in the prestigious events. The Thai star ruled the last LPGA season, with 7 triumphs.
She said that she will have to walk a tight rope to record a win at Singapore because the field is also featuring the defending champ.
Karrie Webb also could not get off to a good start, as she carded a 72 in the first round. Webb is struggling to pile up good scores to improve her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts have predicted that Tseng is expected to win the event, given her performance in the last season.
