Yani Tseng goes unchecked for her 11th worldwide victory at Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China
World number one Yani Tseng’s invincible spree continues unabated as the 22-year-old Chinese Taipei player sealed her 11th worldwide victory for the season at the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China on Sunday, October 30. Tseng pulled in third consecutive
victory in her last four events, further widening the gap between her and rest of the professional ladies golfers in the world. Tseng’s grasp on the sport is unprecedented and has won most her events with mind boggling leads, making the rest of the professional
players appear as amateurs.
“I don’t know. I just play one shot at a time and be patient and keep learning. I just learn from mistakes.” Tseng said on a question of her unilateral dominance in the sport.
After opening rounds of 68 and 66 on the weekend, she kept expanding her overnight lead and pulled in another impressive six-under, 66 on the final day to win the title by seven strokes. Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg was probably the only player who appeared
as a remote threat to Tseng’s lead as the duo started off the final round. Tseng, who had a lead of three strokes over Lindberg, went past the Swede with sweeping birdies at fifth, sixth and seventh holes. Lindberg came back with birdies at 13th
and 14th but her threatening posture fizzled as Tseng again pulled in stellar birdies at par-four 16th and par-five, 18th to seal the victory.
“It’s very exciting for me today. I played so consistently. I was really patient and made lots of good putts to save par so I am proud of myself to finish six under on Sunday and with no bogeys,” Tseng said. She was thoroughly supported by a strong contingent
of fans who have poured in to throw their weight behind their favourite player.
“I’m very excited, especially when you see all the fans here from everywhere, so thanks for coming to support us,” Tseng said acknowledging her fan support.
Solheim Cup player Melissa Reid of England and defending champion of last year’s Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open, Lee-Anne Pace, finished for a joint second with their respective score of eight-under, 208 on the aggregate.
