Yani Tseng heaps praise on Lydia Ko for her first LPGA triumph
Current world number one Yani Tseng could not impress her fans at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but she heaped praise on amateur Lydia Ko for her first victory on the Ladies Professional Golf Association
(LPGA) Tour, saying she is “very impressed”.
Ko, who is an amateur and aged only 15, outperformed all the contenders at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 played at the Vancouver Golf Club, and walked away with the title most of the big names had their
eyes on.
Tseng, who was the hot favourite for the title at Vancouver, was one of the players failing to do their best, but she said while talking to the media that she has not given up and will keep trying to make attempts
in order to get back on track.
However, the top-ranked prodigy was very happy after watching young Ko beat battle-hardened players in Canada. She said that she watched the rising Kiwi amateur with interest and could not help appreciating
her stunning performance.
Tseng, who also rose to fame after capping off her amateur career in grand style, said that Ko has plenty of time to improve her game, as being only 15 will give her much room to fix flaws in her game.
Tseng admitted that despite boasting a solid profile on the LPGA Tour, she cannot compare herself to Ko, as she was not as smart as her when she was pursuing her amateur career.
When asked how good it will be for the LPGA as more and more young players are joining the Tour, the Taiwanese star said that women’s golf needs players like Ko in order to spice up professional events.
“It's very impressed. Especially she's only 15 years old. I didn't even know what I'm doing when I'm 15. So it's pretty amazing to see her play this good in the best stage. All the best coverage here and
she's like only 15 years old and trying to win an LPGA tournament. It must be a dream come true if she can win,” Tseng said.
“I mean it's good to see so many younger players now on the tour, and it's good to see the young generations coming out. I'm only 23, but there's so many younger players now”.
