Yani Tseng keeps faltering as she misses cut at Evian Masters 2012
Current world number one Yani Tseng looked as shattered at the Evian Masters 2012 as she was in recent tournaments of the current season — because all she could do was post an unimpressive 147 in the first two rounds and missed the cut.
Tseng was not expected to display a worse-than-average performance at the Evian Masters 2012, held at Evian-les-Bains, as she had vowed to end her brief victory drought.
Tseng kicked off the tournament in an unimpressive style as she carded a 76 in the opening round. Although the top-ranked prodigy made a good start in the 2012 season, she looked down and out throughout the two rounds and walked off the course regretting yet another grim finish.
Tseng, who belongs to Taiwan, was put under intense scrutiny after she faced a series of defeats. Her last victory was recorded at Kia Classic in March 2012. Despite faltering in the recent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) events, the star golfer boasts a solid profile.
The current season has seen her rack up three professional LPGA titles so far—something that speaks of her unmatched skills. However, a series of defeats and unimpressive finishes in recent tournaments took a toll on her overall performance — and now she is struggling to get back on track in full force.
Analysts said that Tseng has what it takes to make a much-needed comeback on the LPGA Tour, but she is dealing not only with poor performance, but also her rivals who are eager to knock her off the top spot in world rankings.
The world number one golfer has clung to her top position for several weeks now, and still appears to be in a much stronger position. Toppling Tseng from the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings seems hard for her nearest rivals at the moment, as the Taiwanese star is far superior in terms of total points.
Speaking to the media after she bowed out of the Evian Masters 2012, Tseng said that she did not realise that she would be making an all-out effort to score, as she was in full confidence and best form before the prestigious tournament started.
“I [was] kind of thinking too much and trying too hard to play well like I did before,” Tseng said.
