Yani Tseng laughs off performance slump as she looks forward to battle at Incheon
Current world number one Yani Tseng appears to be calm and composed—and she is not on the course solely for winning as she has said there is more to golf than just worrying about being “number one” all the time.
Tseng’s statement may have come as a shock to her fans who have been impatiently waiting for her to get back to her winning ways, but observers said that the top-ranked prodigy has clearly shrugged off concerns over her performance slump.
Despite her fans still keeping an affectionate eye on her, Tseng does not shy away from admitting that the current season has been a real downer, which has seen her record worst finishes of her professional career.
Observers said that the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) phenom, who hails from Taiwan, has not been able to finish inside the top 10 in the last five months—something to give a glimpse of why her fans have been concerned about her lacklustre form.
Tseng, who now appears more complacent than ever before, said while speaking to the media during her pre-tournament interview at Incheon, South Korea, that she is playing golf for fun, and this is what makes her happy.
“I mean, I just want to go out there and have fun with everybody else and try to make birdie every hole, and if not, go to the next tournament and try to play well, and we still have more tournaments and next year to come,” she said of the upcoming LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 where is gearing up to defend her title.
She said she is seeking to regain her lost form, but conceded that “this is just part of real life when you go out and you have to go down and maybe you go up again. I can always be stronger and tougher when I'm coming back”.
Tseng went on to say that she will try to defend her title in South Korea this week, and this could be a game changer for her.
The LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 is going to start from October 19-21, at Incheon, South Korea, with the participation of stars like Na Yeon Choi of South Korea, Stacy Lewis, Suzann Pettersen, Cristie Kerr and Michelle Wie.
