Yani Tseng makes solid start at Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012
Current world number one Yani Tseng looked fired up in the first round of Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 as she posted a 72 to currently tie for the 12th position on the leaderboard.
Tseng, who is trying to regain her lost form these days, started her first round of Ricoh Women’s British Open with plenty of enthusiasm as she avoided making sloppy strokes on most of the holes.
The Taiwanese star could not handle the ball well on the first hole and ended up carding a bogey. She then parred the next five holes and shot a birdie on the par-4 7th. She then parred another two holes on the front nine.
On the back nine, Tseng tried to improve her game a little as she posted three birdies, but it did not come without price because she also marred her scorecard by shooting one bogey and one double bogey.
Commentators said that Tseng’s performance was balanced on the first day of the major championship, although there was room for improvement. They said that the next three rounds will be crucial for the top-ranked prodigy as she will have to face rivals seeking to consolidate their positions on the leaderboard.
South Korean Haeji Kang is currently standing at the top of the leaderboard as she posted a 70. Kang performed well right from the start and appears to have cemented her position as the match has entered into its second day.
Sharing her thoughts while talking to the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) at the end of the round, Tseng said that she is satisfied with her performance, although she could have done a lot better.
The Taiwanese golfer said that her putting and strokes were good, and she hopes to keep that momentum going on Friday and Saturday as well.
“I feel pretty good, first day of the tournament, I feel like I'm hitting so many good shots out there, making some good putts to save the par, and I'm very happy and very enjoyed playing with Ai and Paula today,” the world number one said.
“The major, it's four days tournament, just have to be patient on this tough golf course, and today maybe it's kind of a good day to make some more birdies but I don't think you want to try too hard out there, because the harder you try, the worse you get”.
