Yani Tseng may face trouble outshining rivals at Kohler
The current world number one Yani Tseng, who is performing well in the current season, may find it hard to keep the momentum going in the second major title of the year — the US Women’s Open 2012.
The US Women’s Open is going to be played from July 5-8 at the Blackwolf Run Golf Course, Kohler, with a strong field containing big names on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
According to analysts, Tseng is going strong these days, given her performance in the last events of the season.
She has racked up three titles so far in the 2012 season, with Honda LPGA Thailand as the first victory.
The US Women’s Open is one of the most prestigious events on the LPGA, and players usually try to put their best forward in order to prove their skills in major events.
Keeping in view the latest performance Tseng has recorded, she appears to be in high spirits. The Taiwanese star was close to recording her first major victory of the season at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, but was hampered by Sun Young Yoo.
The top-ranked star finished 3rd, with a 73 in the final round at the Mission Hills Country Club. Tseng kicked off the tournament in an impressive style, as she managed to grab an early in the first two rounds.
She carded 68 in the first two rounds, which helped her consolidate her position on the leaderboard.
Despite stunning performance in the second round, she lost momentum in the last two rounds, giving Sun Young Yoo a chance to surge ahead and record her first major victory.
Observers said Tseng is likely to face tough resistance at Kohler, as the field will also be featuring the defending champion So Yeon Ryu of South Korea and Paula Creamer, who won the 2010 edition of the US Open.
The 23-year-old has lost a golden opportunity to bag the sixth major title at the Mission Hills Country Club, which means the pressure in the US Open will be immense.
In one of her interviews following the triumph at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, Tseng said that she is confident to move forward and will try to stay calm on the course.
However, she said that her biggest aim is to do her best. “I just kind of remind myself that, don't worry about anybody playing and you just do your best. If you don't win, it's okay. You try next time,” the world number one said.
