Yani Tseng meets Jeremy Lin at Time 100 event
Yani Tseng, who is gearing up to participate in the Sybase Match Play Championship, scheduled to be held from May 17-20, at Hamilton Farms Gladstone, met New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin at a event staged by Time Magazine.
Tseng, an avid admirer of Lin, was invited to the function Time Magazine hosted in honour of the world's most influential people.
The world number one golfer met the New York Knicks superstar for the first time ever. According to the reports, Tseng had been meaning to see Lin, an American-born basketball player of Taiwanese descent, for the last few weeks.
Tseng also belongs to Taiwan, and has often expressed her sympathy for players representing her country.
A few days back, she visited New York on the invitation of Taiwan Heritage Night to see Lin in action in a match. However, she could not get a chance to see him, as he was sidelined due to an injury in his left knee.
The 23-year-old had regretted missing out a chance to see one of her favourite players. She had expressed her support for Lin, saying that she wanted him to get well quickly.
Tseng had also meant to see Chien-Ming Wang, a Taiwanese baseball player associated with Washington Nationals. Wang was also not on the team due to fitness issues.
Lin and Tseng have both been selected for "Time 100" - a list featuring the world's most influential persons. Both the stars shook hands and exchanged greetings when they came face to face.
Speaking to the media at the occasion, Lin said that he was glad to be selected for Time 100.
"I feel like it's a real blessing from God," said the 23-year-old, who is also an economics graduate from Harvard. "I'm deeply humbled and honored."
Tseng said that she was extremely thrilled that Time picked her for the list of 100 most influential people on earth. She said that receiving the honour has given her more confidence.
"It's a big honor to be one of Time 100. This is just amazing and hopefully I can come back again next year," the top-ranked star said.
During her interview, she also talked about Wang, saying she hopes to see the Washington Nationals sensation get back on track soon. "I believe that Wang, given time and room, will prove his worth with good performance on the mound".
