Yani Tseng misses the cut at the Evian Masters
In the surprises of surprises, Yani Tseng, the world’s number one missed the cut at the Evian Masters 2012.
Yani Tseng scored 147 points at the end of the second round. She missed the cut by just one stroke. This is most unfortunate for Tseng, who is considered to be one of the best golfers ever.
The series of misfortunes has rather prolonged for the world’s best female golfer. To make things worse, she missed the cut at Evian Masters, one of the most coveted titles of the golf calendar.
Tseng stepped into the tournament with a new caddy. This change was expected to turn the tide for the Taiwanese player. However, this did not materialize and Tseng is out of the race for the trophy. This marks the seventh tournament that Yani Tseng has failed
to perform well in.
When the trouble began in early 2011, Tseng placed the blame on her elbow injury. This injury continued to hamper her game throughout the year. Her swing appeared to have lost its power and she started chipping the ball instead of smoothly driving it across
the green.
Talking about it, she said, “It's more about the mental things, because my coach Gary [Gilchrist] was here with me these couple of weeks [and] said my swing now can win in the tournament. Sometimes when I start on tee I still worry about if my ball is going
to hit right or left”.
However, before the start of Evian Masters, she announced that she is recovering her form and her rough patch appeared to have passed.
She seemed very confident and said that she will do her best to secure her first major title of the year.
Many experts say that her firing of her long time caddy was a sign that all is not well with Tseng. The two had been together for almost 16 years and had seen the major portion of Tseng’s wining career together.
It appears that the downhill stage of the Tseng’s career has started. To stem the decline, Tseng has to invest a substantial amount of practice and stamina in her game.
