Yani Tseng on the road to recovering her form
Yani Tseng has not been in her best form lately. Although she is still the number one player in the world, she has missed cuts and played a completely below average game in other events.
However, according to Tseng, things are about to change. She will play in the upcoming CN Canadian Women's Open and she intends to prove it once again that she is the top rated player. Announcing to the world, she said, “Yani is back. I think the new Yani
is coming out, too".
Yani rose to become the world’s leading golfer in just a few years. Her rise stunned many observers who were used to a gradual movement up the golf rankings.
She took the world by storm and she maintained her position despite the challenges from many upcoming players.
Tseng started 2012 on a great note. She played an excellent game in ISPS Handa Australian Open and tied for the eighth position. This was followed by Honda LPGA Thailand 2012 where she bagged the top slot.
She claimed victory in two consecutive tournaments. First was the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, held in middle of May. The next was the KIA Classic. This was the usual performance for which Yani Tseng is well known for.
In the next major event, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, she scored 280 points and stood third. This pattern was continued in the coming events where she posted either a top-10 or top-15 finish on regular bases.
Things started to go down in June 2012, when she participated in Wegmans LPGA Championship. She played a below average game and tied for the 59th place. Her score of 13-over 301was a poor performance by any standard.
Many fans and experts dismissed this as a result of a bad patch that would give way to another great performance. However, she missed the cut in the next event as well, the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G.
This poor form continued in the start of August 2012. With a number of experts calling for a revision in her standing as the world’s top player, she was under massive stress to perform well.
She staged a comeback in the recent Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola. From August 17 until 19, Yani Tseng was in her old, excellent form. She scored a 6-under 210 points and stood 11th at the end of the final round.
Although she was not able to post a top-10 finish, the mere fact that she finished in the upper half of the leaderboard is enough for her fans. One win does not wipe out the previous missed cuts and poor performances but at least, it is a start.
Talking about her hopes, Yani said, “have been struggling a lot," she said. "I've been on the top, and maybe this will be good to start a good year again, because we still have a lot of tournaments to go. I'm very excited and very much looking forward to
this tournament and the future”.
