Yani Tseng picked Player of the Year once again
The current world number one Yani Tseng has grabbed yet another accolade, as she has been awarded 2011 Player of the Year, presented by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA).
According to the details, Tseng received most votes in recognition of her stunning performance throughout the last season. She has racked up the coveted award for the second year in a row.
Speaking to the media about the recognition, the Taiwanese prodigy said that she is glad to see her name on top of the golf world — something she had been dreaming of since turning into a professional player.
She said that reaching the current position took plenty of hard work and consistency, and she likes to advise rising players to do the same.
Tseng has become one of the greatest female golfers, as she has maintained her number one position for the last 60 weeks.
This feat has helped her eclipse the popularity of most of the big names on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
Tseng boasts a solid profile, with 26 professional titles. She has proved her mettle on the LPGA Tour, as she has racked up 15 wins so far.
In addition to proving her worth on the LPGA, the number one star has grabbed 6 triumphs on the Ladies European Tour as well.
The 2011 season saw Tseng record 7 victories, which, according to analysts, helped her grab the attention of Golf Writers Association of America.
She kicked off the last season in an impressive style, as she successfully defended her title in the Taifong Ladies Open.
Although the event was co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour of Taiwan Tour, the 23-year-old surprised her followers and rivals.
She continued her magic form in the very next tournament ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, winning the title.
Analysts said that winning the award will help Tseng gain more confidence.
The world number one thanked all her supporters who decided to vote her for the prestigious award.
"The award, for all golfers, is recognition and encouragement. I really appreciate everyone that voted for me," Tseng said.
She said that she had been an avid golf fan before turning professional, as she used to idolize then top-ranked players such as Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam.
