Yani Tseng ready to defend title on home soil
Media and critics may be glossing over Yani Tseng’s latest efforts at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 in South Korea last week, which saw her come close to defending her title, but the
golfing sensation appears keen to move ahead.
Tseng, who was expected to defend her title at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship but finished third, seems to have come to terms with her lacklustre form that has been troubling her for the
last few months.
The world number one golfer is going to defend another title at the upcoming Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012, but it remains to be seen how she copes with all the pressure and media
attention.
Fans, who were bit sceptical about her performance, have now pinned high hopes on Tseng as the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament is going to be staged on her birthplace—Taiwan.
For being a local, her chances to win in Taiwan are better than most of the other contenders who may be in a far stronger position right now.
The LPGA Hana Bank Championship saw her display a balanced game right from the start as she fully capitalised on favourable weather and course conditions at Incheon, South Korea.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the defending champion hoped that she will live up to the expectations of Taiwanese fans, who are eagerly waiting for her to snap out of a worst performance
slump.
Tseng pointed out that since she is still the number one in the Women’s World Golf Rankings despite having performed below average lately, her fans like to put their trust in her capabilities,
and that is why she is a bit nervous.
She went on to say that ever since she became number one, her stakes have got higher and it is quite disheartening when she loses.
“I just want to let people know this is not easy but I’m still working really hard and doing my best to keep world No. 1 and to really enjoy the life,” shared Tseng who has won 15 LPGA titles
so far.
“It’s very hard for me the past 3-4 months and now it’s getting better. I wish the fans keep supporting me no matter how I play”.
