Yani Tseng regrets missing a chance to see Jeremy Lin and Chien-Ming Wang in action
Yani Tseng, who did well in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, spent the last Sunday in New York where she sought to buck up New York Knicks Jeremy Lin and baseball star Chien-Ming Wang in their matches.
Tseng went to New York last week on the invitation of Taiwan Heritage Night, as she was looking to see Lin, an American born basketball player of Taiwanese descent and Wang, who is a Taiwanese baseball player associated with Washington Nationals, in action.
Ambitious Tseng had to face some disappointment when she was informed that she would not be able to see the two Taiwanese stars in action, as both were sidelined due to injuries.
Speaking to the media about the absence of Lin and pitcher Wang, the top-ranked golfer said that she had been meaning to support the two Taiwanese players for weeks.
Tseng quipped that she should not have come to New York to support her favourite players, as she caused them to stay on the sidelines.
"Maybe I'm a jinx to other athletes and I probably should stop cheering for them," the 23-year-old Taiwanese, who currently resides in Orlando, Florida.
Tseng said that she is an avid follower of Lin, but she is in a bit of shock not to see him in action. She said that she wishes Lin all the best and hopes that he will soon be on his feet after undergoing a knee surgery.
"Although I'm a bit disappointed that Lin is out with a knee surgery, I realize the importance of staying healthy for an athlete. I wish him a smooth recovery and a speedy return to the court," she said.
Moreover, Tseng also headed to Citi Field where she put her baseball skills to the test. She threw out a pitch in an attempt to get some applause from the crowd, but failed to hit the ball on target.
Tseng said that she might have stunned hundreds of fans on the golf course, but baseball definitely is not one of her things.
“I was really excited to throw out the first ball. I just regret that after practicing for a while, the ball I threw was still off target," world number one said.
