Yani Tseng remains outside top 10 in second round of Lorena Ochoa Invitational
Current world number one Yani Tseng carded a 71 in the second round of Lorena Ochoa Invitational to tie for the 12th position on the leaderboard.
Tseng improved her position on Friday as she stood tied for the 13th position after posting a 70 in the first round.
Tseng kicked off her second round in amazing style and made perfect shots on the greens, but her score was not huge enough to place her inside the top 10. However, her performance was far
better on Thursday.
She started the round on Friday with a birdie on the first round. She then parred the next hole and launched another birdie on the par-5 third. Tseng could not maintain her momentum on the
par-4 fourth as she carded a bogey.
To further dent her confidence and score, Tseng played clumsily on the greens of par-4 5th and ended up registering a double bogey.
On the back nine, the world number one improved her game a little and managed to card three birdies and one bogey.
Having reeled off a birdie on the par-5 10th, the Taiwanese star made a pulsating comeback but could not find a place inside the top 10. She parred the next four holes and sank
her fourth birdie on the 15th.
Although the greens were suitable for most of the players, Tseng found it a little hard to make balanced strokes on some holes. She misjudged the putt on the greens of difficult par-3 17th,
but quickly regained confidence by firing yet another birdie on the last hole.
American Angela Stanford, who won the 2008 Lorena Ochoa Invitational, subdued all her rivals right from the start of the second round. Stanford shot a 66 in the opening round to share the
lead with Michelle Wie of the United States and Candie Kung.
“I actually got off to kind of a bumpy start kind of gave myself a little bit of a pep talk then figured something out with my putting and then it was just great after that but you know, that’s
the good thing of playing a course that you like. You figure things out then you have a chance to start playing well,” Stanford said at the end of the first round on Thursday.
