Yani Tseng roars to second position in first round at Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship
Defending champion Yani Tseng amazed the Taiwanese fans on the first day of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 as she shot a 67 to grab the second position.
Tseng, who is the hot favourite for the 72-hole LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament in every sense, kept the spectators all hyped up throughout the first day at the prestigious
Sunrise Golf & Country Club.
Starting off on the front nine, Tseng was high in spirits as she recorded her maiden birdie on the very first hole. She then parred the next four holes in a row and launched her second birdie
on the sixth hole.
Although it was a bit sluggish start compared with the other contenders as they grabbed good positions early in the day by making a fast start, Tseng roared into contention on the back nine
as she ramped up pressure by shooting four birdies.
She misjudged the ball on the 10th hole and carded a bogey. However, she quickly regained her composure and fired a birdie on the difficult par-3 11th to offset the impact
of the lone bogey.
A wave of excitement and shouts rippled through the spectators’ area after Tseng sank three back-to-back birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th hole.
Tseng, who hails from Taiwan and has lured hundreds of spectators to the course this week, performed stunning on the same course last year as she won the inaugural title.
Speaking during her one of her latest interviews to the LPGA Tour, Tseng said that she has always loved to play in front of Taiwanese fans as her excitement spirals and she strives to record
a good finish.
She mentioned the last year’s battle where she won the title by beating South Korean Amy Yang and Spanish Azahara Munoz by five strokes.
“Last year was one of my best memories ever, because I had never seen that many people in my life on a golf course,” she said. “I was very surprised. I was very emotional. When I stepped on
the first tee, I was almost in tears. I was ‘Wow.’   I was like I want to win this tournament not for me . I want to win this tournament for the people”.
