Yani Tseng says media attention and fans' expectations hard to handle
Current world number one Yani Tseng, who looks all set to take on rivals at the Evian Masters 2012 set to start this Thursday, in France, said that she is confident enough to face the pressure at the prestigious
event, but the media attention and fans’ expectations will be huge.
The Evian Masters 2012 is slated to start from July 26-29, at the Evian-les-Bains, with a strong roster featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Tseng, who has stood strong at her number one spot in world rankings since last year, will be seeking to further strengthen her position by performing well.
The top-ranked LPGA star, who hails from Taiwan, spoke to the LPGA in her pre-tournament interview. She expressed confidence in her game, saying she is aware of the pressure, but will try to stay strong and
grab a title.
If the Taiwanese star manages to win the Evian Masters 2012, it is going to be her fourth victory for the current season — something sure to put her in a more stronger position in terms of world rankings.
Tseng got off to a stunning start in the current season, as she won the first three tournaments of the year.
The LPGA giant said that she knows that she has been indomitable in terms of world rankings, but she sometimes becomes overwhelmed by the pressure that comes in the form of fans’ expectations and the media.
She said that she is not complacent at all, and is keeping a close eye on what is happening on the rankings table. “It's pretty hard be world No. 1. This is kind of my second year. No one knows how hard.
It's not just playing good golf. Everything around the golf course I need to handle. All the medias and fans and pressure on the golf course and sponsors, it's really hard,” Tseng said.
The 23-year-old said that she will try to put her best foot forward in the coming tournaments. “I found out it's not that easy. But I think I'm getting better every time and learning a lot. I have a good
team behind me to helping out those things”.
