Yani Tseng seeks victory at HSBC Women’s Champions this week
After defending her title at the Honda LPGA (ladies Professional Golf Association) Thailand, Yani Tseng is bracing for another battle — HSBC Women’s Champions. The tournament is slated to begin this Thursday, at the Tanah Merah Country Club’s Garden Course.
HSBC Women’s Champions is going to offer a hefty purse of $1.4 million and the participation of the current world number one is being regarded as the most important.
The roster for the match is strong enough to keep the players motivated. However, Yani Tseng is going to have the upper hand because of her past performances.
Despite what Tseng is planning to do at Tanah Merah Country Club, there will be a number of players who also boast impressive profiles.
One of the biggest contenders Tseng will battle is Karrie Webb. Webb is best known for winning 37 events on the LPGA. More importantly, she will be defending the title on February 23, Thursday.
Webb can pose a serious challenge to the top-ranked star because of the inflated confidence she gained after clinching last year’s title.
Karrie Webb is confident to grab yet another victory and has vowed to do what will matter most: hold nerve and avoid making too many careless strokes.
Another player that has grabbed the spotlight is Michelle Wie. Wie is famous for her unique putting style on the course. She won 2 titles on the LPGA Tour.
Wie may not be as competitive as Karrie Webb, but she has resilience — a feat that helped her eclipse some of the big names in women’s golf.
Tseng has reached Singapore and received a warm welcome from her fans.
Flanked by the Thai community and other admirers, she shared her feelings about last week’s Honda LPGA Thailand and her plans for the HSBC Women’s champions this week.
The Thai star said that she was glad that she managed to defend her title at Siam Country Club. She said that the event this week will be even bigger as she is seeking the 2nd win of the season.
Tseng could not win the event last year but this week she appears to be in high spirits.
"After winning four LPGA events in a row and arriving in Singapore straight after the Thailand event last year, I went into the tournament with high hopes. However, I didn't have a good second round, which made it difficult ... (Australia's) Karrie (Webb)
played very well on the back nine and she deserved to win," she shared.
