Yani Tseng set for rousing reception at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012
Current world number one Yani Tseng can expect a rousing reception at the upcoming Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012, as the star golfer has said she has massive fan following in Asian countries.
Hailing from Taiwan, Tseng is being regarded as one of the favourites for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, set to be played from October 11-14, at Kuala Lumpur Golf
and Country Club.
Almost all the top-ranked LPGA stars will show up at Kuala Lumpur this Thursday, aiming to impress their fans, but with a dazzling past performance of Tseng’s still fresh in their mind, Malaysian
fans will love to get behind the strongest female golfer.
“I always look forward to playing in Asian tournaments because it's kind of my hometown, my hometown of Taiwan. I always have a few more fans in Asia,” said Tseng who has stood strong at
the number one position in world rankings for months thanks to 15 LPGA victories that also include five major titles.
“It's always fun to play in front of the crowd. I have a good memory here last year, too. I was in a fight to the end,” the top-ranked prodigy said.
Last year at the same course, Tseng came close to winning against victor Na Yeon Choi but a lousy performance in the first round stopped her from advancing to the top.
“I didn't play well the first couple of days, but I finished well the end. I always wished hard to the next level, so I work hard at this tournament, and I played the course today and I still
love it”.
Observers said that Tseng should not be singled out as the main attraction at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, because players like Na Yeon Choi of South Korea, who won the last edition of the tournament,
are also going to get a warm welcome.
Other Asian contenders who can grab the spectators’ attention include Shanshan Feng of China, South Korean Sun Young Yoo and I.K. Kim, as the three LPGA stars have won major championships
in the current season.
In addition to a strong Asian roster, American Stacy Lewis who currently ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Lexi Thompson, Natalie Gulbis and
Cristie Kerr will also be keeping fans all hyped up as they all are capable of tearing apart any contender on the course.
