Yani Tseng struggles at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
Current world number one Yani Tseng continues to struggle on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour as she finished tied for the 46th spot at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 after posting
an overall 284.
Tseng may be back on the LPGA Tour in full force once again, but she is far from able to finish inside the top 10, as the recent tournaments have shown that the top-ranked prodigy has done anything but perform
well.
Overall, Tseng has been stellar with her putting and is currently ranked first in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. The last season went amazingly well as the Taiwanese star racked up seven LPGA titles — something
that helped her rise to fame within a matter of months.
Grabbing a host of victories in a single season (2011) boosted Tseng’s confidence and she entered into the 2012 season with an even more pragmatic approach. From the outset, the world number one kept her rivals
in trouble as she clinched three titles early in the season, further cementing her number one position in world rankings.
The battle at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, held at Prattville, Alabama, United States, pitted some of the most formidable players on the LPGA Tour, but Tseng could not grab attention as she struggled in all
the four rounds.
She kicked off the tournament with plenty of enthusiasm and her biggest aspiration was to end her victory drought, but as she came face-to-face against American and Asian rivals, her confidence waned.
Having carded a 71 in the opening round, the Taiwanese star made a sensible start but the final three rounds saw her make plenty of mistakes on the greens.
Tseng posted a 73 in the final round, which proved to be a severe blow to her overall score. She faltered through all the eighteen holes on Sunday, but managed to sink two much-needed birdies along the way.
Observers said that in order to start winning again, Tseng will have to learn to play in nerve-racking situations — something the LPGA giant has conceded to in many of her interviews.
Observers pointed out that consistency has remained a persistent problem for the current world number one lately. They said Tseng remains in contention in tournaments as long as things go well, but the moment
she loses momentum, getting back to her winning ways becomes an uphill task.
