Yani Tseng thinks that a new caddy will end her woes
Yani Tseng has had a good year so far. She has secured three titles this season and has an amazing eight top-10 finishes.
What might appear an excellent record to many players is not good enough for the world’s number one. She is used to winning and when the trophies stop coming in, she tends to lose it.
Many analysts say that this is exactly what is happening to Tseng right now. The recent change in her camp, the firing of long time caddy Jason Hamilton, is an indication that all is not well with Tseng.
Tseng is well known among golf fans for her meteoric rise in golf rankings. She turned professional in 2007 and since then has won 26 titles. With this long chain of wins, players tend to get panicky during a bad patch.
Jason Hamilton has been Tseng’s caddy for almost two years. His performance as a caddy has never been a matter of debate. With him on her side, Tseng won sixteen tournaments.
Many commentators were of the opinion that the duo is quite stable and there will be no major changes in Tseng’s camp.
The recent incident only highlighted the recent troubles with Tseng’s game. Her last good performance came in Sybase Match Play Championship, held in May 2012. She achieved a top 10 finish with a ninth position. From then onwards, Tseng steadily fell down
the ranking.
The last straw that probably broke Tseng’s temper was her dismal performance at the U.S. Women’s Open.
Instead of the performance that is usual for her, she shot a dismal 302.  She was placed in the 50th position. After two days, she announced that she is in market for a new caddy.
Commenting on the event, Hamilton said, “I wasn’t surprised at all. Things have been weird for four or five weeks”.
Tseng has been troubled by an injured elbow throughout the season. This, many analysts say, is not sufficient to trouble Tseng enough to fire her caddy.
They pointed out a very different factor. Internal pressures that come with playing in high level tournaments without an adequate break appear to be the major reason of the split.
