Yanina Wickmayer and Julia Goerges will revisit Auckland for the ASB Classic in 2013 – Tennis News

World number 18, Julia Goerges, and the 23rd ranked Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer, will begin the new season at the ASB Classic in Auckland. It was terrific news for the Kiwi fans who wanted a much elite draw for the New
Year. They will not only see the two stated elite contestants but also the likes of the 26th ranked Defending Champion, Jie Zheng, and the number one Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, who is ranked fourth in the world.
For the second time in the history of the event, someone from the Top-5 category will heads on to Auckland to begin the new season which is fantastic news for the local spectators. The draw is much more competitive this time around
and some of the players ended the year with some mind-startling runs that make it even better.
Wickmayer who is 23-year-old is also the former world number 12. She is a youngster who had an unforgettable season in 2012. She participated in the second round of the event this year at the hands of the Italian superstar, Sara
Errani. She will definitely like to write-off that memory and improve her record at Auckland with a better show in the upcoming year.
The 23rd ranked Wickmayer just reached one final in the current season. She was the top seeded player at the Moorille Hobart International and expected to beat the German qualifier, Mona Barthel, in the final but the
tables were turned upon her by the underdog who clinched the title.
Goerges is also searching for the same kind of kick-off as Wickmayer is. The 24-year-old German lost the fifth ranked compatriot, Angelique Kerber, in the second round this year. However, she recovered well to wipe off the dismal
opening to the season whereas the miseries of the Belgian superstar kept on growing as the season progressed.
The 18th ranked Goerges reached two finals in 2012. She was infinitely close to win a title at the Dubai Duty Free Championships but the superior ranked Radwanska stopped her at the last stage. The German did the hard
work at the Generali Ladies Linz but couldn’t handle the onslaught of the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, in the grand finale.
