Yanina Wickmayer plonks Casey Dellacqua in the second round – Hobart International 2012
Belgian top seed, Yanina Wickmayer, dumped the local participant, world number 135, Casey Dellacqua in the second round of Hobart International tournament on Tuesday. It was a very easy walk through for the Belgian professional
tennis as she took just an hour to overpower the 26-years-old Aussie in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Everyone is the arena was left dejected by such a half-hearted sub-standard performance by their professional tennis ace.
Second head-to-head encounter between the two professionals was never enthralling as their first three-setter in DSF Classic in Birmingham, almost three and half years ago in June 2008. Wildcard entrant couldn’t level the head-to-head
tally and disappointed number of tennis fans in the arena, who came to support her and witness a close encounter. It was a complete one-sided show from Wickmayer, as she spared nothing at all for the local player to be proud of at the end of the match. Probably
it was one of those days that Dellacqua would like to forget as soon as it’s over.
Match kicked off in traditional fashion; both players held their respective serves in the first three games; scores were 2-1 in favour of the top seed. Aussie superstar was expected to pull up an upset provided such a favourable
atmosphere with full support at home soil but she failed to create any sort of impact. Top seed broke her serve in the fourth game and held her own serve to take 4-1 lead in the match. Everyone is the arena was clearly disappointed to see such a miserable
performance by their hot favourite participant.
Dellacqua was ought to perform well in the sixth game to save the set but she committed two double-faults and struck a simple return straight to the net that earned her opponent another break and pushed the scores to 5-1. Top seed
spared nothing for the local participant and held her serve to round off the set in quick succession.
Second set started with a successful break for the visitor and she nailed her opponent down in the next three games as well. Two successful serve game, coupled with two successful serve breaks pushed the scores to 4-0 in favour
of the visitor. Aussie held her serve in the fifth game but that was mere consolation as it was the only occasion in the second set where she left the courts for the sideline with a successful game.
Belgian held her serve and broke again in the seventh game to confirm her place in the semis against Simona Halep.
