Yankee Candles: Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate the black soot that it leaves in the jar?

I LOVE Yankee Candles b/c the scents are so good and strong plus the throw is great. However, I hate the black soot it collects around the inside of the jars after being burned. Any suggestions?

  1. the soot comes from the wick and parrafin in the candle. If they offer soy candles that is one of the best ways to cut down on soot. Also, be sure your trimming the wick down 1/4" each time you light it!

  2. I'm presuming that you just put the lid over the candle while it's burning to put it out. There's nothing wrong with that, but the black soot that you notice, that's actually smoke. Smoke is just a very small and thin solid (how else could you see it, eh?) and it just settles down in the bottom of the jar. It doesn't do anything bad, so you don't need to worry about it.

  3. Try trimming the wick down to about 1".

  4. your going to have soot regardless....its caused by fire...unless you dont light them
