  1. Great Player who is Truly missed.

  2. Too bad he didn`t take the train or bus. He was a great player.

  3. I hate to admit it but cried when Thurman Munson died.  I didn't know if he was great by baseball standards but he was one of my favorites.  I would sit an eat Reggie bars, watch the Yankees and cheer for Thurman Munson.

The thing is you don't get to be the Captain of the Yankees by being average.  He didn't have the greatest power numbers, but he was a true Yankee.  He always got a hit at the right time including 6 in a row in the World Series.  If he had played a full career he would have been one of the greatest catchers to ever play the game.

  4. Thurman Munson was well on his way to the Hall of Fame before the plane crash.  His offensive numbers were outstanding.  With 1558 career hits in just 11 seasons and a .292 career batting average he looked to be a career 3000 hit member with probably more than 1500 runs scored and 1500 career RBI's.

More than his offense, he was a great catcher.  He was the glue that kept that team together.  Reggie Jackson has nothing on Munson to be sure!  The Yankees were primed to win even more championships if Munson had lived.

Great catcher, great family man and he never took any c**p from anyone and that included Carlton Fisk.  Terrible loss to baseball and to the human community.

  5. These pitch counts and pitchers only going six innings for the "quality start" would have made him throw up.

  6. one of the greatest catchers and leaders

  7. Received exactly the level and amount of honoraria that he should have, and did rightly earn.

More playing time would not have changed this.

  8. A great yankee and a great person who died tragically and belongs in the baseball hall of fame. Number 15, Never forget.

  9. He should be in the Hall of Fame. It's not exactly like he chose to end his career. Even a 2 or 3 year longer career would have landed him there. The writers, blockheads, are intoxicated by numbers. Thurmon would have made it.

  10. I remember Thurman Munson and how he died in his airplane. I judge all the new Yankees Catchers on how they compar eto Thurman!

  11. You know, since I wasn't alive I couldn't appreciate him as a player or as a human being for that matter, but watching that show on ESPN, The Bronx is Burning, made me look at him in a completely new way. I now see him as a man of honor and respect as he played the game with the same tenacity and heart every time he went into the squat.

  12. Great man....even better player
