Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman hoping for a decent return on his investment – MLB News
Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman stated in an interview that Jesus Montero could be the best player he has ever traded in his career. Cashman also traded Nick Johnson, David Wells, Alfonso Soriano and Mike Lowell to strengthen Yankees’ pitching line-up.
Cashman believes that Montero has the ability to bat under pressure and he will prove to be an asset for Seattle Mariners this season.
“He may very well be the best player I’ve traded,” Cashman said of Montero, whom he traded to Seattle Mariners for the right handed pitcher Michael Pineda. “He’s that good. He’s a middle-of-the-lineup type bat.”
Cashman traded Montero for the flame throwing Michael Pineda earlier this month. Pineda was one of the brightest prospects of 2011 season and undoubtedly, Cashman will be expecting some great performances from him. The move could pay dividends for the Yankees,
the club that struggled with their pitching lineup last season.
Pineda has the best fastball in the game right now. When he gets it right, it is very difficult for the batters to score runs off him. Working with Yankees’ coaching staff, the 23 year old has a great desire to learn new tricks and improve his game play.

Making the most of his available opportunities, Pineda displayed some high quality pitching skills in his first Major League Baseball season last year. He is very excited at becoming a full time Yankee so early in his big league career. The starter will
also have the opportunity to pitch alongside C.C. Sabathia, who has been a consistent performer for the Yankees.
“There were only two moves, obviously, I was willing to [trade Montero] for and they had to do with the same organization,” Cashman said in a telephonic interview with a leading sports website, referring to the near-deal for Cliff Lee. “It’s not easy to
make these decisions, but I know I’m excited about what I’m getting.”
Montero, who showed amazing talent last season, is surprised at leaving the Yankees. He will be looking to change the course of his career and help the Mariners achieve significant results this season.
