Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia looking to bounce back – MLB News
C.C. Sabathia is one of the most experienced pitchers in Major League Baseball right now. There was a time when the New York Yankees’ ace used to get frustrated over his failures but not anymore. Sabathia had a poor time on the mound on Friday night last week when the Yankees played against Tampa Bay Rays at St. Petersburg, Fla.
In his only start of this regular season, the big guy went for 7.50 ERA. Allowing five runs on eight hits including two home runs, he clearly looked out of sorts in the six innings he pitched.
One of the two homers off Sabathia was hit by lefty Carlos Pena in the first inning suggesting that the pitcher is struggling find his line against left handers. However, considering his stats and his ability to fight back, he is expected to turn things around in his next MLB start.
Sabathia was absolutely brilliant last season, helping his team make it to the playoffs. Although the Yankees lost to Detroit Tigers in American League Championship finals, their pitching attack performed consistently in all games.
“I told him he wasn’t going to sit against all left-handers," Girardi said. “It’s important he gets at-bats against lefties."
“It is part of the game,” the skipper further added. “I tell the catcher’s it’s their responsibility [to hide signs or give location late]. That was part of what you work on, where you set up."
“Having family and kids allows me to let bad games go," said Sabathia, who will be looking to turn things around in his second start against Baltimore Orioles. “They don’t care if I throw a no-hitter or give up a home run."
Since getting married and becoming a father, Sabathia has become more mature in his approach. Of course, he will be looking to get over his failure against the Rays to make a strong come back on his next appearance.
Sabathia knows winning and losing is part of the game and he tries to concentrate on things he can control. It will be interesting to see if Sabathia can learn his lessons to put things back on track.
