Yankees’ bat crush the Rangers, 12-5 to clinch series 2-1: MLB Update
The New York Yankees’ batters came from behind, launched five homers and the Club overpowered the Texas Rangers 12-5 at Rangers Ballpark on Sunday, May 8, to clinch a three-game series by 2-1.
The Rangers’ Mike Napoli hit a runs batted in (RBI) double off the Yankees’ starter, Carsten Charles Sabathia, in first inning to provide the Club with an early 2-0 lead. David Murphy followed Mike and hit a sacrifice fly to take his Club to 3-0 in the same
inning. Then Elvis Andrus added another RBI run to cement the Club’s strong position in second inning.
The Rangers were enjoying 4-0 lead in second, but the Yankees’ Derek Jeter hit an RBI single in third to help the team trim the lead by 1-4. Chris Granderson followed Jeter and added another RBI to cut the lead 2-4. In fifth, both starters did not give any
run and score remained the same.
In fifth, Derek Jeter hammered the first homer of the game off the Rangers’ starter, Dave Bush. Alex Rodriguez earned his first run hitting a grounder to short-stop, and the game tied at 4-4. Sabathia, on the hand, held the Rangers scoreless to provide some
relief to batters.
Jeter launched a leading homer in seventh, this time off the Rangers’ reliever, Arthur Rhodes. It puzzled Rhodes to such extent that he yielded another homer in his second next pitch to Granderson. It advanced the Yankees to 6-4 in the top of inning.
The Rangers’ Adrian Beltre smashed an RBI single in the bottom half of the seventh to trim the lead 6-5, but it was the Club’s last run in the game. On the other hand, the Yankees’ bat kept swinging brilliantly as the slugger, Francisco Cervelli, smashed
a grand slam homer in eight to widen the lead by 10-5. In the same inning, Mark Teixeira hit another homer and sent the opposition under a huge pressure.
The Rangers could not add any run in eight and ninth and lost second series against the Yankees in this season.
Despite giving away, five runs on five hits, four walks and three earned runs over six innings, Sabathia enjoyed his third win with 2.89 ERA. Sabathia’s win was the result of the relievers’ great pitching. Joba Chamberlain, Rafael Soriano and closer Lance
Pendleton did not allow any run over their short one-inning spells.
Bush, on the other hand, gave three runs on five hits, gave two earned runs over four innings. The reliever, Ryan Tucker gave one run, Arthur Rhodes allowed two homers, while Cody Eppley went for six runs. The closer, Mark Lowe was the Rangers’ only pitcher
who remained scoreless over one and 2/3 innings.
