Yankees hero Curtis Granderson supports All Blacks
Curtis Granderson, the New York Yankee centerfielder trafficked the rugby passes with John Key, the Prime Minister of New Zealand. They both showed up for the Blues’ Super 15 rugby training camp in Auckland. Granderson seems to have a lot of interest in
the game that he newly found and has All Blacks as his favourite team.
Key is a huge supporter of New Zealand’s pride All Blacks and the Blues. He took out time to visit Blues training, where he jumped in to Granderson, who plays for Yankees. Granderson has hit 126 home runs and bats 268 in his seven season career.
Granderson wanted to learn about the sport and looked pretty curious about it. So he arranged this little trip to training, where he was presented with an All Blacks jersey and a Blues jersey. Granderson will be thoroughly supporting All Blacks throughout
the World Cup this year. Yankees will be playing their World Series right after the Rugby World Cup later this year.
Granderson told that he became curious about the game the meeting of International Olympic Committee in 2008 in Switzerland, where it was decided to make baseball and Rugby sevens a part of Olympics from 2016.
He said, “That's when I was first introduced to it and since then I have wanted to learn more and more about it.”
The Yankee hasn’t attended any game as yet, but showed up for the practice. He is looking forward to join in the coming World Cup and support New Zealand. Talking about his first experience as a fan, he said, “I imagined they would be bigger wider wise,
but I didn't imagine them to be that tall. So you have that athletic side of it and the strength side of it, and they are just big guys. I'm glad I've just got a chance to watch and I am not going out there and running into these guys.”
Granderson shares the same pressure as the All Blacks have to bear, because both of the entities are always expected to win. It’s a constant pressure that remains at the back of the head of every champion.
Granderson said, “When I step onto the field I want to win and I am disappointed when we lose. I consider that pressure so this comes from more people and I don't consider that bad pressure at all.”
