Yankees’ pitching rotation looking settled ahead of 2012 regular season – MLB Spring Training
New York Yankees are considered as one of the most capable teams in Major League Baseball. The Yankees have won more World Series titles than any other team in history of the game.
Although the Yankees have just one World Series title to their in the last ten years, they have made it to the playoffs regularly, securing the American League East Division title nine times over the last twelve years.
Having spent a great amount of money during the offseason, Yankees’ owner Mike Ilitch certainly wants his team to make it all the way to the World Series this season. Acquiring Michael Pineda, Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes, the Yankees have powered their
pitching rotation to cope with some of the most dangerous hitting lineups in American League.
Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia was one of the most successful pitchers in MLB last season. The starter played a key role in taking his team to the post season. However, as the Yankees lacked depth in the pitching rotation, Sabathia was unable to contain the
batters in the playoffs.
"Somebody is going to be disappointed," Girardi said. "That's the worst part of this. And they have to get over their disappointment and help this team however we ask them to help us. Kuroda was great. We’ve really got him stretched out good, so I was really
pleased. He’s the guy that I thought we were getting."
“I think it comes down to trying to make an educated guess of what (Cabral’s) upside is versus you know what you're getting from Clay,” Girardi said. “It's kind of similar to the young starters versus Freddy.”
Kuroda, who was signed on a one year $10 million deal earlier this year, displayed some high quality pitching skills in a Grapefruit League game against Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, giving up just two runs in seven strong innings.
Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia have also looked in great form since the start of 2012 Spring Training. If the pitching rotation lives up to the expectations, the Yankees will be very hard to beat. It will be interesting to see if Joe Girardi and his men can
clinch another World Series title for their club.
