Stade Rennais star, Yann M’Vila, has come under a lot of criticism in recent weeks. However, his coach, Frederic Antonetti has stepped into the breach to defend the young midfielder
“M’Vila can play in the top eight European sides and we will not deprive him of that,” were the words of Stade Rennais coach, Frederic Antonetti, a few days back. The Bretons’ coach knows that he might not be able to hold on to the young defensive midfielder
for long.
The 21-year-old has been in good form for the club in recent seasons. Yet in recent weeks, the midfielder does not seem to be as good and as impactful as he usually is. In week 28 of the Ligue 1, Stade Rennais lost at home to Toulouse (0-1) and the France
international did not shine in that game. Following the game, M’Vila came under a lot of criticism from all quarters.
However, Antonetti has come to the rescue of the player on the columns of Ouest-http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. The French tactician defended his player by saying that it is harsh to put the blame on one individual because Yann was not the only reason behind the defeat.
“I am not saying that he was good but Yann M’Vila did not lose the match. We all lost it together. Two years ago, after a game like this, I would have been fine with it but today, I am down.”
On his defence, M’Vila also said that he was forced to play in a withdrawn role because the Toulouse players were closing on him pretty quickly.
“No, I was not in the driving seat. It was difficult. The problem is that the opponents organised to close me down and I had to play deeper,” justifies the youngster.

If he really wants to take the next step in his career, the number 17 of Rennais has to quickly find a way of getting back to his best. Furthermore, with the European Championships on the horizon, M’Vila needs to have a good end to the season with his club
in order to go to Eastern Europe with a lot of confidence.
