in Italy on Monday.
Marti and Fabbiano held their serves in the first two games, levelling the score at 1-1. The Italian hit blows to Marti in the third and fifth to grab a 4-1 advantage. However, the Swiss player completely turned around the proceedings
after that, grabbing five games in a row to capture the set at 6-4.
The 24-year-old neither hit an ace nor committed any double fault in the opening set, keeping his first serve percentage at 56 and converting 18 of the 24 of them into points.
Marti clinched a breakthrough in the fourth game of the second set and held his next serve to race to a 4-1 lead. Though, it was Fabbiano’s turn to make a comeback, as he clinched four of the following five games to even it out
at 5-5. The subsequent two games went with serve, taking the score to 6-6 and forcing a tie-breaker. The Italian contestant nailed a couple of mini-breaks to win 7-6(4).
Fabbiano banged in a couple of aces and made three double faults in the second set. The Rome, Italy resident returned pretty well, as he won 17 of the 33 first and nine of the 19 second reply points.
After losing the second set by the closest of margins, Marti made an ideal start in the decider, breaking his rival in the opening game and consolidating on it to attain a 2-0 lead. The Swiss player struck again in the ninth one
to grab it 6-3.
Marti had an extremely low first serve percentage of 36 but the good things was that he did not lose any point on them, winning all eight of them. On the other hand, Fabbiano was himself to blame, as he could not hit even a single
