Yannick Agnel captures Men’s 400m freestyle gold: 2012 French Short Course Nationals
Yannick Agnel of Olympic Nice Natation captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on initial day of 2012 French Short Course Nationals on Thursday, November 15.
Agnel showed no mercy to his challengers in the shortest freestyle discipline and proved his mettle for the crown of the event. With his relentless efforts in the mediocre distant event, Agnel devastated hopes of his opponents and seized the title in a new world record time.
The French veteran, who was thinking of dropping the 400m event in order to concentrate in the 100m and 200m event, was himself surprised with his splendid form.
He gained a lead of more than one pool length over his following swimmer and tapped the wall for the title with the timing of 3 minutes and 32.25 seconds.
The champion was followed by Anthony Pannier of AASS Natation, who was 11.60 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 43.85 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Sebastien Rouault of Lyon Natation, who was one and a half body length slower and from his former finisher and touched the wall for third position by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 45.37 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Benoit Debast of AASS Natation, who stayed 0.34 seconds away from reaching the victory stand and ended his race in a time of 3 minutes and 45.71 seconds.
Debast was followed by Damien Joly of Olympic Nice Natation, who stayed considerably slower from his former finisher and finished his race in a time of 3 minutes and 48.93 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Igor Dupuis of Mulhouse On, who ended his race in a time of 3 minutes and 51.40 seconds.
Dupuis was traced by Thibaud Pierre of Stade Francais O Courbevoie, who secured seventh place with an effort of 3 minutes and 52.66 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Enzo Vial Collet, who finished eighth in the race with an effort of 3 minutes and 52.82 seconds.
