Yannick Agnel claims Men’s 200m freestyle gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Yannick Agnel of France claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Sunday, November 25.
The French swimmer spoiled the party of his opponents in the eight-lap discipline and transpired on the finishing end for the title.
Agnel, who set the world record of 400m freestyle earlier at the French Short Course Nationals, continued his stupendous efforts in the 200m discipline and touched the wall for the crown.
Agnel remained prominently ahead of his closest swimmer as he tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 41.46 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Pieter Timmers of Belgium, who stayed one and a half body lengths apart and tapped the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 43.08 seconds.
Timmers was followed by Gregory Mallet of France, who stayed 0.13 seconds behind and cruised his way towards the finishing end for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 43.21 seconds.
Mallet was followed by Artem Lobuzov of Russia, who was 0.40 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for fourth position by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 43.61 seconds.
Lobuzov was followed by Peter Bernek of Hungary, who stayed 0.90 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for fifth position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 44.51 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Dominik Meichtry of Switzerland, who suffered a deficit of 0.12 seconds from his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 44.63 seconds.
Meichtry was followed by Evgeny Lagunov of Russia, who was 0.15 seconds slower and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 44.78 seconds for seventh place.
Lagunov was chased by Glenn Surgeloose of Belgium, who stayed 0.15 seconds behind and finished eighth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 44.93 seconds.
In addition, Agnel was happy with his unmatchable form in the race and received medal after the event.
