Yannick Agnel claims the Men’s 200m freestyle crown: Mare Nostrum, Monte Carlo 2011
Another stunning performance took place in the Men’s 200m freestyle final of the 2011 Mare Nostrum, where Yannick Agnel of France captured the golden crown with a sterling time of 1 minute and 47.44 seconds at Monte Carlo in Monaco, on June 12.
Earlier, he set the world record in the corresponding meet with a fastest time of 1 minute and 45.47 seconds in March, 2011, and improved to second spot in the world rankings. Agnel is a well known swimmer of France, who has won many unique titles in competitive
swimming.
He won golden crown in the Men’s 4x100m freestyle at the 2010 World Championships in Dubai. Furthermore, he claimed golden crown in the Men’s 400 freestyle meet at the 2010 European Championships, in Budapest.
He also won 8 gold medals in the 2009 and 2010 Junior World Championships in Prague and Helsinki, respectively. Meanwhile, Cseh captured silver title in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1 minute and 48.96 seconds and Kyle Richardson snared bronze with a
time of 1 minute and 51.30 seconds.
On the other hand, the Women’s 100m back-stroke crown was snatched by Zueva with a sterling time of 59.37 seconds. She set the world record in the following event with a time of 59.35 seconds in April, 2011, and moved to the 2nd spot in the world
rankings.
Placed second in the 100m back-stroke meet was Terakawa with a time of 59.52 seconds, while Shiho Sakai earned third place honours with a time of 1 minute and 00.23 seconds. It was a neck and neck battle between Zueva and Terakawa, as the Russian swimmer
won the match due to her fast speed and impeccable stamina under the controlled water conditions in Monte Carlo.
Next, Alexander Dale Oen of Norway will compete with Ryo Tateishi and Feldwehr in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke race. Dale Oen is the hot favourite to win the respective event. With both athletes in good form, it will be very interesting to see who wins the
100m breast-stroke clash.
