French swimmer, Yannick Agnel clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on third day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatic Centre on Monday, July 30.
The 20-year-old Agnel devastated hopes of his challengers in the 200m discipline as he overpowered the fastest qualifying swimmer, Sun Yang of China and earned his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
His opponents capitulated in the four-lap freestyle discipline as Agnel snared gold medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 43.14 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed alluring efforts of Park Taehwan of Korea and Sun Yang of China for second best spot of the event. Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other as they initiated a neck-to-neck battle for second position.
They failed to surpass each other over the finishing end and reached the finishing blockade for silver medals with identical timings of 1 minute 44.93 seconds.
The second position holders were followed by Ryan Lochte of USA, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower from his former finishers and transpired on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 45.04 seconds.
The American swimmer was chased by the defending champion and world record holder of the discipline, Paul Biedermann of Germany, who stayed 0.49 seconds slower from him and surfaced on the wall as fifth best finisher with an effort of 1 minute and 45.53 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Robbie Renwick of Great Britain, who stayed exactly one second behind and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 46.53 seconds.
Similarly, Renwick was trailed by Thomas Fraser-Holmes of Australia, who secured seventh position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 46.93 seconds.
The Australian was traced by Danila Izotov of Russian Federation, who stayed 0.82 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 47.75 seconds.
In addition, Agnel expressed contentment over his victory in the 200m swim at the medal ceremony of the event.
