Yannick Djalo returns to Sporting Lisbon after move to Nice fails – Primeira Liga News
Portuguese International, Yannick Djalo, returns to Sporting Lisbon after his move to Nice was overruled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The forward transferred to the French club on the last day of the transfer window but FIFA deemed his switch void
and now Djalo is going to return to Jose Alvalade.
Selecao International, Yannick Djalo, was signed by Nice on the last day of the transfer window in a deal worth €4.5 million. However FIFA claimed that as the move was made after the closing of the window, it would not count.
Officials from the Ligue 1 club then proceeded to launch an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport but the verdict was not delivered in their favour. Instead it was decided that Djalo would not be able to don Le Gym colours until January.
With the decision against them, the player is due to return to Sporting but Nice executive Julien Fournier claims that his team will still be keen to acquire Djalo once the January transfer re-opens.
"In the future, we will see, but for now he returns to Sporting. We were very interested in July, but it all came down to nothing. That is what we have told Sporting and the player. But it is logical we remain interested in the player."
The official also said that the club had tried to claim their stake in the player as long as possible but the verdict went against them and now they have to move on.
"We defended our rights until the end and the CAS did not rule in our favour, so the player belongs to Sporting again. We have to accept the decision,” Julien Fournier was quoted as saying.
Although currently Yannick Djalo will have to ply his trade at Sporting Lisbon for a good part of the season, Nice remain interested in acquiring his services and will be back with a proposal in the upcoming months.
All he has to do is maintain his focus and try to play in as many games as possible for the Lions.
