Yannick Lebherz clinches Men’s 400m IM gold: Day one – German Olympic Trials, Berlin
Yannick Lebherz of Potsdamer SV clinched gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on foremost day of the German Olympic Trials in Berlin on Thursday, May 10.
Lebherz demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the playoff and proved his eligibility in the German team to the 2012 London Olympic Games by securing gold medal of the event.
Lebherz, who qualified into the final as top fastest swimmer, elevated his pace in the playoff and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 14.90 seconds.
The champion was followed by Jacob Heidtmann of Swim-Team Elmshorn, who stayed nearly seven seconds behind and reached the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 21.11 seconds.
Heidtmann was trailed by Kevin Wedel of SG EWR Rheinhessen-Mainz, who stayed just 0.09 seconds behind and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 21.20 seconds.
With his impeccable efforts, Wedel remained almost one body length ahead of his subsequent swimmer, Morten Ahme of SV Poseidon Hamburg, who finished his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 23.07 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Clemens Kaiser of Swim-Team Elmshorn, who stayed considerably slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.45 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed forceful efforts of Paul Wudtke of SC Poseidon Berlin, who was almost two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 26.62 seconds.
Wudtke was chased by Lukas Husing of VfL Sindelfingen, who secured seventh position in the 400m event by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 27.67 seconds.
Similarly, Richard Kursch snared eighth position of the IM discipline as he tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 30.54 seconds.
The crowd appreciated wonderful swims of all participants while the position holders raked medals and accolades for their gruelling efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship.
