Yannick Lebherz has conquered the Men’s 200m back-stroke qualifying rounds on the third day of the 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial.
The German Long Course Championships is a selection platform for their national swimmers, who seek their qualification in the German swimming team to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
The 22-year-old Lebherz conquered the fastest qualification spot in the Men’s 200m event by touching the wall first in a time of 1:58.61 minutes. He was considerably ahead of his following swimmer, Lucien Haßdenteufel of SSG Saar Max Ritter, who touched
the wall for second fastest spot with a time of 2:01.20 minutes. Lucien was 1.20 seconds away from his closest competitor, Helge Meeuw, who earned the third fastest seat into the finals, posting a time of 2:02.40 minutes.
Yannick was 7.31 seconds slower than the world record of 1:51.92 minutes, made by American Swimmer, Aaron Peirsol, at the 2009 Rome World Championships. He was almost four seconds away from the European mark of 1:54.75 minutes, held by Arkady Vyatchanin
of Russia at the same world titles. The German swimmer also remained 2.27 seconds above the national record of 1:56.34 minutes, owned by Helge Meeuw in 2006.
German record holder, Meeuw, finished the first lap of the 200m event, clocking a stupendous time of 27.50 seconds. His time was 0.48 seconds ahead of Lebherz’s 27.98 seconds and 0.84 seconds faster than Lucien’s 28.34 seconds.
They all continued a neck-to-neck battle, while Lebherz gained a slight lead in the second lap of the race, clocking 58.30 seconds. Meeuw stayed 0.34 seconds ahead of Haßdenteufe, who completed his second lap in 58.86 seconds.
Lebherz continued his dominance in the third lap, where he sustained his fastest qualification spot by producing a time of 1:29.11 minutes. He was followed by Lucien and Helge, who completed their third lap in 1:29.78 and 1:31.07 minutes, respectively. With
the help of his fast kicks, Yannick comfortably touched the wall first, finishing his final lap in a fastest time of 1:58.61 minutes.
The final of the same event will take place in the next session, where the top two winners will be awarded with podium finishes.
