Yannick Lebherz dominates Men’s 400m IM heats: Day one – German Olympic Trials, Berlin
Yannick Lebherz of Potsdamer SV dominated the qualification rounds of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the German Olympic Trials in Berlin on Thursday, May 10.
With his immaculate efforts, Lebherz wasted no time and occupied fastest qualification spot of the event by finishing his swim in first place.
His stupendous effort remained considerably ahead of his challengers as he tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.53 seconds.
He was followed by Jacob Heidtmann of Swim-Team Elmshorn, who was almost seven seconds behind and reported an effort of 4 minutes and 22.87 seconds for second qualifying position.
The second best finisher was followed by his teammate, Clemens Kaiser, who reached the finishing end for third position by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 26.24 seconds.
Kaiser was followed by Kevin Wedel of SG EWR Rheinhessen-Mainz, who remained just 0.22 seconds slower from securing third position and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 26.46 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Morten Ahme of SV Poseidon Hamburg, who was just 0.04 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer with the timing of 4 minutes and 26.50 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was secured by Lukas Husing of VfL Sindelfingen, who stayed 1.35 seconds behind and completed his race by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 27.85 seconds.
Husing was followed by Maximilian Kruger of SV Halle, who stayed nearly one body length behind and reported a time of 4 minutes and 28.82 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the 400m discipline was secured by Richard Kursch of DSW 1912 Darmstadt, who was only 0.30 seconds slower from his foregoing competitor and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 29.12 seconds.
The crowd appreciated commendable efforts of Lebherz in his main event while the champion aroused expectations of his supporters by expressing that he will try to achieve the same in the playoff of the 400m event.
Furthermore, the final of the event will take place in the next session of the championship.
