Yannick Lebherz improves German record of Men’s 400m IM - German World Championships Selection Trial
Yannick Lebherz has improved the German mark for the 400m Individual Medley (IM) category, on the first day of the 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial.
The championship is a selection trial for the German swimming team to compete at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships in July.
The 22-year-old Lebherz demonstrated his extraordinary skills in front of the arena, conquering the crown of the 400m IM on the first day of the championships. Lebherz confirmed his spot in the German team by winning the gold medal in a record-breaking time of 4:14.02 minutes. The German swimmer was almost eleven seconds away from the world record of 4:03.84 minutes, held by American swimmer, Michael Phelps.
Similarly, his new German mark was almost seven seconds above Laszlo Cseh’s European record of 4:06.16 minutes.
Yannick was 8.16 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Morten Ahme, who touched the wall for silver medal, clocking a time of 4:22.18 minutes. The top two finishers were followed by 20-year-old Lukas Husing, who appeared on the podium for the bronze medal, posting a time of 4:25.32 minutes.
The German record holder was evident to secure a gold finish from the start of the race. He completed his 100m butterfly in the first place, with a timing of 58.30 seconds and was 1.35 seconds ahead of Husing, who completed his initial round in 59.28 seconds. They were followed by Ahme, who finished his first round in the third place, clocking 59.28 seconds.
In the second round, Lebherz gained a lead of almost four seconds from his following swimmer and finished his second round in 2:01.40 minutes. Ahme moved up to the second spot by posting 2:05.59 minutes against Husing’s 2:07.13 minutes effort.
Yannick gained a lead of almost two seconds in the 100m breast-stroke, extending his lead to nearly six seconds from Ahme. In the 100m freestyle, Lebherz displayed a wonderful swim of almost 58.5 seconds to post 4:14.02 minutes on the board.
The German champion was extremely happy with his performance and claimed that he will make his country proud at the Shanghai titles, this July.
