Yannick Lebherz storms in 400m IM - German World Championships Selection Meet: Day one
Day one of the German World Championships Selection Meet started with the stunning performance of Yannick Lebherz, who claimed the Men’s 400m Individual Medley title with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 14.02 seconds in Berlin, on May 31.
More importantly, Lebherz broke his previous record of 4 minutes and 14.63 seconds set in 2009. His swim also moved him into the 8th spot in the world rankings. Morten Ahme edged out Luka Husing in the corresponding meet with a time of 4 minutes
and 22.18 seconds. Husing finished his distance in 4 minutes and 25.32 seconds.
In the men’s 1500m freestyle, Christian Kubusch hit the wall in 15 minutes and 09.94 seconds and moved into the 14th place in the international rankings. Martin Grodzki gave a tough time to his competitors in the corresponding race and finished
second in a time of 15 minutes and 14.68 seconds. Meanwhile, Jan Wolfgarten rounded out the top three in the respective meet with a time of 15 minutes and 18.72 seconds.
Theresa Michalak picked up the top seed in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley prelims with a fastest time of 2 minutes and 15.92 seconds. Isabelle Harle captured the first spot in the Women's 400m freestyle prelims with a winning time of 4 minutes and 13.07
seconds.
Afterwards, the Men’s and Women’s 100m breast-stroke events took place, wherein Johannes Neumann and Sarah Poewe wound up first, respectively.
Johannes Neumann beat Christian Vom Lehn in the Men’s 100m breaststroke event with a sterling time of 1 minute and 02.02 seconds. Vom Lehn was placed second in 1 minute and 02.29 seconds, while Hendrik Feldwehr earned third place honours in a time of 1 minute
and 02.28 seconds. Marco Koch finished fourth in 1 minute and 02.49 seconds.
Sarah Poewe won the Women’s 100m breast-stroke final with a genuine time of 1 minute and 08.61 seconds, while Caroline Ruhnau grabbed second spot in 1 minute and 08.84 seconds.
In the Men’s 50m free prelims, Steffen Deibler was placed first with a winning time of 22.26 seconds and improved to 15th spot in the world rankings. Meanwhile, Marco Di Carli wound up second in a time of 22.49 seconds.
In the meantime, the Women’s 50m freestyle title was snagged by Britta Steffen with a time of 24.98 seconds. The effort also moved him to the 12th spot in the world rankings. Dorothea Brandt wound up second in a time of 25.03 seconds and Daniela
Schreiber earned third position in 25.56 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Women’s 800m freestyle action relay meet was clinched by Julia Leidgebel, Kerstin Lange, Hannah Freiwald and Nina Schiffer with a winning time of 8 minutes and 16.95 seconds.
