Yannick Vostes makes impressive comeback on the table tennis circuit – Table tennis News
Yannick Vostes from Belgium is set to play his welcome match, after an injury he faced earlier in July, 2010. His success is worth mentioning, as he reached the main draws of the World Championship for the first time in his playing career.
The Belgian player turned 25 on May 9, 2011. He is currently at Rotterdam for the GAC GROUP 2011 World Championships. The most precious gift he could have ever earned for himself was a place in the main draws.
The most creditable performance of the young player was in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tour, the Morocco Open, held at Rabat, in 2010. He reached the quarter-finals of the championship but he could not proceed due to the back injury.
Vostes participated at the KAL Cup Pro Tour Finals in the Men’s Doubles category. It was his last appearance before the injury and he was accompanied by his compatriot, Benjamien Rogiers. The pair reached the semi-finals by defeating the top seeded duo from
Germany, Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger. They lost against the eventual runners-up of the event, Gao Ning and Yang Zi from Singapore.
The Belgian, while recalling the effort of the duo, said, “Yes that was quite remarkable; we didn’t expect anything so to reach the semi-finals was a very good result for us.”
In the Men's Single qualification round of the World Table Tennis Championships, Vostes made an impression and proved with his game that he is back in the circuit. In the opening match of the group round, Vostes defeated Artur Reinholds from Latvia in a
match of five games, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4, 11-13and 11-4. In the second match of the group round, it was Chang Hoi Wa from Macao who faced defeat against Yannick. The match extended to an interesting six games, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, 12-14, 5-11and 11-2.
Vostes earned a place amongst group 13 and he was not required to compete in the first preliminary round of the qualifiers. In the second round of the preliminary phase, Vostes’ skills were tested as he fought hard in a match, which extended to full seven
games. It was Rashid Omar from Bahrain, who made the match tough for the Belgian player. Yannick did not give up and won the last seventh game of the match, scoring11-6, 11-1, 4-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-7, and 11-4.
Vostes expressed his feelings on winning the match and said, “I was down for most of the match”, I just kept fighting, trying to maintain the pressure, he made mistakes at the crucial time and thankfully I managed to win.”

The win was an important one for the Belgian player, as he will be facing Kirill Skachkov from Russia, in the main draws going to be played today. All is left to see whether the Belgian will be able to continue his road to success in the first round of the
event.
