Yannik Reuter upset Andreas Hairder-Maurer in the first round – Mons Challenger 2012 CH
Wildcard entrant, Yannik Reuter, gave straight sets shocker, 6-4, 6-3, to the Austrian professional, Andreas Hairder-Maurer, at the first round of the Ethias Trophy 2012 held at the hard courts of Mons, Belgium. He summed up his
win in a total of one hour and 35 minutes on eve of Monday.
Ranked 383rd in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Reuter, marked his 2-love lead by breaking his rival’s serve at the start of the opener. Maurer did not make the competition easier for his rival and busted his serve in the
very next game, bring the score line to 2-all. Nevertheless, both players gave each other a tough deal and battled hard to equalize the scores after every alternate game. Reuter picked a flying start and swiftly clinched the last two games, marking the set
closure with 6-4 lead.
The 21-year-old, Belgian had a relatively better initial serve precision of 56 percent, converting 10 of 18 first and seven of 14 second delivery points. He was gifted with six serve breaks, he capitalized on only three, and his
rival won two of five. The Austrian manifested 40 percent initial serve accuracy, with 12 of 14 first and five of 21 second delivery points.
In the second set, the two participants battled hard to secure the winning spot. Although the local challenger commenced a decent start, he had to face a tough trail as the scores squared down to 2-all in the fourth and then 3-all
the sixth game. Despite the pressure, he kept his poise and broke his rival’s serve for the first time in the eighth game. This completely shattered Maurer’s confidence, as he seemed completely dormant after that point. Reuter jumped forward and stole the
set with a 6-3 win.
The 25-year-old, Austrian had 54 percent initial serve precision with nine of 13 first and four of 11 second serve points. He lagged behind because he was unable to secure even a single serve break of the four.  The right-hander,
Reuter had 61 percent first serve with 20 of 25 first and seven of 16 second delivery points.
