Yanxin Zhou claims Women’s 200m backstroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Yanxin Zhou claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on opening day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
Zhou lived up to the expectations of her followers as she dominated the playoff of distant backstroke discipline. She remained prominently away from her toughest challenger and made her way to the wall for gold medal.
With her unrelenting efforts, Zhou enjoyed a half body length lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.81 seconds.
The champion was chased by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who stayed 0.54 seconds apart and finished second in the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
Ingram was followed by Anqi Bai of China, who stayed 1.43 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.78 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jenny Mensing of Germany, who was only 0.36 seconds slower from reaching the medal rostrum and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 07.14 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who stayed 1.45 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.59 seconds.
Lapshina was chased by Miyu Otsuka of Japan, who was full body length behind and cruised her way towards the finishing end as sixth position holder with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.43 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 0.43 seconds away and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.86 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Yige Yao of China, who stayed 0.52 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 10.38 seconds.
In addition, Zhou was pleased with her gold raking effort and stimulated hopes of her fans by saying that she would struggle hard to accomplish the same in future.
