Yao Jie earns a spot in Women’s Singles quarter-finals – Bitburger Badminton Open Update
Women’s Singles expert Yao Jie continued with her top form and gained access to the quarter-final round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
She stamped Fabienne Deprez in the second round match which was played at Saarbrucken, Germany.
This encounter kept both shuttlers head-to-head for 27 minutes before ending with concluding margin of 21-18 and 21-12.
The Dutch player showed strong character in front of the local audience and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
Yao Jie, who is the second seeded shuttler of this GP Gold tournament, was a bit sluggish in the beginning of the first set but she geared herself up after a couple of establishing rallies.
Initially, Fabienne relished full benefits of home ground and crowd to gain an early advantage and put her rival under huge pressure with a 6-2 total.
The native shuttler carried this rhythm all the way to the mid-game break and placed a respectable figure of 11.
However, she could not go with the same flow after the interval and allowed Yao Jie to bounce back in the contest.
To counter-balance the situation, the Dutch campaigner put in a tremendous performance in the third quarter of the set. She levelled the score at 13-13 and then turned the tables with a notable difference in final margin.
Yao Jie bagged eight out of last 13 points and won the opening game with 21-18 score on the board.
This timely win boosted her confidence and she played the second set with even more conviction.
This time she did not repeat her previous mistakes and established an unassailable lead well before the half time.
Meanwhile, Fabienne strived hard to stop her competitor but she could not hit the mark until the final moments.
Yao Jie dominated the overall pace of rallies and put a decent margin of 11-8 before the one-minute break.
She made the best out of this rhythm in second half of the set and raised her hands as victor after putting 21-12 score on the board.
This win takes her to the round of eight where she is scheduled to meet another German player, Karin Schnaase.
