Yao Jie overwhelms Elizabeth Cann in Women’s Singles semi-final battle of Dutch International 2012
Netherlands’ ace shuttler Yao Jie cheered her home fans by putting up superb performance in Women’s Singles semi-final encounter when she overwhelmed England’s Elizabeth Cann at the Yonex Dutch International 2012 in Netherlands, on Saturday, April 14.
The in-form Jie, who is World Number 20 and top seed in Women’s Singles main draw of Dutch International, lived up to expectations as she defeated the third seeded Cann in a rubber set contest.
On the other hand, the English lady played well but not enough to get rid of her higher ranked local rival and lost the match in three games after struggling for 50 minutes in the court.
Both ladies started the opening set in an entertaining manner as they played at the same speed and also remained close until the score reached at 5-5.
At this stage, Jie changed her game plan and started to dictate the pace of rallies. He set up a remarkable lead of 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the top seed continued her impressive run in the semi-final clash and did not face any resistance from her opponent. She took the set with an incredible score of 21-8.
In the second set, Cann changed her strategy and matched the speed of her rival this time. She was playing positive and attacking badminton and remained close to Jie until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Jie tried to take over the charge from her opponent but failed to dictate the pace of rallies this time.
The Dutch lady could not play with precision in the ending points of second set and lost it with a close 19-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Jie was everywhere in the court as she took an impressive lead at the early stage. She continued playing to her maximum potential and set up a wonderful lead of 11-6 until the interval.
After the break, the local shuttler remained in commanding position in the whole set and bagged it without any problem with a stunning 21-8 score on the board.
The top seed emerged as winner in this 50-minute Women’s Singles contest with an interesting score of 21-8, 19-21 and 21-8.
