Yao Ming out for at least another two weeks
With Yao Ming, the starting centre for the Houston Rockets, sitting out the past four games with a sprained left ankle, the Rockets received some bad news on Thursday 18 November when
it was revealed that the centre would miss at least another two weeks after an examination performed by Dr. Tom Clanton Thursday revealed a bone bruise on the ankle. Yao could miss more time as he goes through conditioning after the injury heals.
Yao, the injury-prone player who missed the entire season last year after undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot, was being slowly brought back by the Rockets. They
limited him to 24 minutes a night and kept him out of the second game of back-to-backs to begin the season.
Clanton revealed through a statement that there is no connection between Yao's current injury and his off-season surgery, saying Yao’s left foot is “completely healed and the structural
integrity of the foot is intact."
Yao only played six minutes against the Washington Wizards on 10 November when he injured his left ankle.
In his season debut on 26 October, Yao looked healthy, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes of play. But all in all, Yao has only played in five of 11 possible games
so far this year. He has been averaging 10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in just 18.2 minutes per game. His touch has been efficient, as he's shooting 49 percent from the field and 94 percent from the free throw line.
The Rockets (3-8) are off to a rough start with their 7'6'' centre either playing limited minutes or sidelined. They lost their first five games of the season but have since played .500
basketball at 3-3.
They should have a decent chance at a win on Friday 19 November when they visit the Toronto Raptors (3-9) in Toronto.
